CURRENT THEATRE PROJECTS and other work ...
ATTENTION SEEKERS I'm working with an eclectic group of 'up there - out there' artists - Peter Oswald (Actor and visionary playwright, currently commissioned by the National Theatre, London), Alice Oswald (poet. T.S. Eliot award twice!) and Martin Holland (fab musician and actor) - exploring the realms linking theatre, poetry in performance, music and dance: an abstract zone containing neither this nor that nor the other, but permutations and combinations of everything, sometimes overlapping, sometimes not. We perform at established Arts Venues all over England. For more information go to www.attentionseekersproductions.co.uk
SHORT SHRIFTS In another constellation the Attention Seekers invite other professional actors to join them to perform Peter Oswald's Short Plays, soon to be seen at the DARTINGTON STUDIO (SPACE), ENGLISH THEATRE BERLIN (October 2011) and SOHO THEATRE, LONDON (Nov 2011). For more information go to www.shortshrifts.co.uk
SHEROSE I have co-written a surreal stage play (with PRISCILLA BE, an American performing artist and director, based in Berlin) - a 'metaphysical farce about exploding female icons', soon also to be made into an animation film.
AUTOBIOGRAPHY I'm currently writing a book about my rather peculiar life.
A BRIEF HISTORY Acting started when I was 11yrs old, unwittingly learning from a master of Michael Chechov's Physical Gesture Techniques. Learning acting was a process that saved my life, or at least stopped me from becoming a deeply depressed, bored and disturbed child in school. I flew through all the LAMDA exams in acting and poetry and was accepted immeadiately into Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, when I was 17yrs (1971-3). Then I got married to a Viking and went on to study classic and modern dance in Copenhagen for 5yrs, after which I joined an erotic dance company in Paris and ended up living and working in Berlin for 17 yrs, as an Actress, Dancer, Director, Teacher and Writer in a wide variety of dramatic manifestations: Cabaret, Rock Theatre, Fringe, State Funded Classical Theatre, T.V. , FILM and RADIO, Surreal Art Performance, Poetry Performance. I had the privilage of working closely with many pioneering artists, such as Ian McNaughton (producer of MONTHY PYTHON); Vladek Sheybal (WOMEN IN LOVE); Marianne Segebrecht (BAGDAD CAFÉ). I starred in the Cult Film CLEMENTINE TANGO, which ran for 5yrs in Paris, Los Angeles, Rome and Berlin and enjoyed front page publicity, entertaining political and cultural V.I.P's including Nina Hagen and the Rolling Stones. Yeah, Mick invited me out. I said no, of course. Since 1995 I've has been based in Devon, England, but still work in Berlin whenever I can. I have two beautiful children and have been married three times.
ABOUT ACT ... what can I say?
I find it hard to describe what I do, because it's always evolving. A mixture of everything and a process of eternal amazement for me. There's not a lot more I can say except that ... ACTING is about everything Human.
I just strive to learn more about it all the time and pass that on to others. If you want, just pop into one of my free trial sessions to see what I do ... it would be lovely to meet you. Josephine.
